Yoga as Tinnitus Relief?!
Nowadays you can´t go anywhere without hearing about yoga and its benefits.
Yoga? That hippie- alternative sport? Which is not even a real sport?!
Yes, that is what I thought….
But now the cosmic joke is on me, I guess.
The perfect yoga class
When I tried it for the first time, I wasn´t not sure what to make of it. It was at a gym, to which I had signed up to (but almost never went) when I first had the tinnitus and the doctor recommended to do something for stress relief. The teacher was quiet good and made the class fun, so at least I went to that class. It was not even a real yoga class, it was called Body Art, which I guess is quite similar.
Of course after a while I didn´t go to yoga class anymore, just no time!
And who doesn´t know how that goes, there is just now time for that and after work you are too exhausted to do anything. You just want to go home and have your peace. Not see anyone and not talk to anyone…just peace and quiet…..OH WAIT…what quiet??? Peeeeeeeeeeeep peeeeeeeeeeep
As time and also money are a lot of times factors for excuses for not doing something, I just recently found a perfect solution for me.
YOUTUBE! I am not the online / computer freak that knows a lot about that stuff, but I have managed to subscribe to some channels and as my googleaccount signs me automatically in I guess I also have a youtube account and my subscribed channels are always there for me to click on.
Now I can do a quick yoga session via youtube anytime I want because there isn´t a fixed schedule. The best thing is that I can choose what kind of session I want to do. I just type in Yoga in the morning, yoga for fat burning, detox yoga, digestion yoga, yoga when tired and the perfect classes come up. Sometimes if I really don´t have time at all…I type in yoga 10 min and I do a short sequenze.
Yoga as Tinnitus Relief
Why even bother if I don´t have time? I want my body to get used to it, I try to find no excuses for not doing anything and it makes me feel good!!
If for some reason if I don´t do yoga, when I am sick or on weekends, I can feel how my body gets tighter and how I feel stressed faster. So I think that yoga is the reason why I feel like that right now, because I haven´t done my yoga.
I swear! It relaxes me and through out the day my body is not as stiff and I don´t get stressed as much. Which is good, because when I get really stressed this addtitional sounds acompanies my normal tinnitus. So I am all about not getting too stressed.
Yoga really helps me to stay calmer during the day and it also helps improving my posture. A better posture seems to be good for my muscles beeing less tight around my neck and shoulders which helps my muscles being less tight around my jaw. That is not just good for my mood but also for not noticing my T as much or rather it doesn´t flare-up as much when a stressful situation occurs.
There are so many people out there teaching free online yoga classes so that it is hard to choose from. Depending on what you like, you will find your favorite teacher.
Right now my two favorite teachers is: Adriende Mishler from Yoga with Adriene
Now I already now most of the poses by name and do intermediate videos. But for the first few weeks I did the beginners videos and that is how I learned.
But I guess everybody has to find their own style. She is just a little different, I like her sense of humor and her voice is very soothing and relaxing.
